Description
Fanuc Alarm 3 (TOO MANY DIGITS) means that the controller has found too many digits in a single word. In simple terms, you have typed a value for a command that is longer than the machine’s specified limit.
This alarm usually occurs for the following reasons:
When you are working on a Fanuc controller and the screen displays ALARM 3: TOO MANY DIGITS, it means that you have entered more digits than the specified limit for a particular word or data entry in the program.
Each system has a specific number of digits for different functions. If the system allows only 8 digits for a coordinate and you enter 9 or more, this alarm is triggered.
This problem often occurs when a decimal point is incorrectly placed or a very large value is entered contrary to the parameter settings.
How to Fix Alarm
- Look carefully at the line where the cursor is stopped. Is there a value that is unnecessarily long?
- Check if you have not put a decimal point twice in the same number (e.g. X10.25.5).
- If you are entering a value in G10 (data setting) or G54, etc., make sure it is within the range of the parameters.
- Put the machine in EDIT mode, correct the incorrect value, and then press the RESET button.
Note: If this alarm is occurring without any specific program, there may be an incorrect entry in the Offset page or parameter setting. Check it manually.
