Fanuc Alarm 85: COMMUNICATION ERROR

Fanuc Alarm 85: COMMUNICATION ERROR

Fanus Control Model: Series 16, 18, 21 (including i-Series)

Description

This alarm appears when there is an interruption in data transmission between the controller and an external device (such as PC or USB).

This alarm indicates that while you were loading or downloading a program, an “Overrun,” “Framing,” or “Parity” problem occurred in the data coming through the RS-232C serial interface or memory card.

How to Fix Alarm

To resolve this issue, take the following steps:

  • Check that the Baud Rate, Stop Bits, and Parity settings are the same on both the CNC machine and the PC. If even one value is different, this alarm will occur.
  • Check the RS-232 cable for any cuts or loose connections. Also, clean the connector pins to improve connectivity.
  • Go to the machine’s parameter page and check that the correct I/O Channel (usually 0 or 1) is selected.
  • If everything looks good, try sending data from another cable or computer to see if the problem is with the cable or the machine’s communication port.
